Event Date:
Tuesday, September 27, 2022 - 6:30pm to 8:00pm

Come learn about a playful part of Connecticut's history!  The J. & E. Stevens Company was formed in 1843 in Cromwell by brothers John and Elisha Stevens, with the intention of manufacturing cast-iron hardware, hammers, and a few iron toys.  Eventually, they became the largest manufacturer of cast-iron toys in the country.  Producing their first cast-iron mechanical bank in 1869, today those original cast-iron banks sell for thousands of dollars at auctions.  During this program, Cromwell Town Historian Richard Franklin Donohue will show us his collection of banks, tell us about their history, and share amusing tales that inspired their design.  This program is free and open to the public.  An RSVP is appreciated, but is not required.  Call 860-742-7428 with questions or to reserve your space.
